Description

Sank on December 1st, 1878 enroute from Galveston, Texas to La Harve, France. It is a 200 foot English Brigantine Rig with an iron propeller. The Kate struck a reef 22 miles northwest of Gibb's Hill Lighthouse, all crew was saved aswell as the 3,500 bales of cotton that was on board. Presently sits on a reef off Tucker's Town Beach in 45 feet water with it's boilers, engine, propeller shaft and deck wiches still visible. Snorkelers can also find it's propeller sitting alone on top of the reef in 20 feet water. Photos by Mike Fiorini.
